Spell Loopholes

Wording a spell correctly is extremely important! We’ve all heard the stories of someone who cast a spell and technically had it come true, but in a way that wasn’t what they actually wanted at all! Here’s a list of common “loopholes” spells will take to get the job done, and how to make sure you get what you want!

🕯Taking its time- “I want money,” you tell the Universe, hoping to get some help with rent. Well, rent comes and there’s no extra cash in sight! Then, two weeks later, a surprise wad of cash all but lands in your lap. The spell came true, but not in time for when it mattered. This is easily fixed by adding “…by the end of the month,” or specifying what the money is for, which in this case was this month’s rent.

🕯No help needed- “I want money,” you say again. Magic will often take the path of least resistance, so if you’ve already got a paycheck on the way, the spell might not do much besides make sure it doesn’t get lost. There. Money. It can be good to specify that you want your spell to work in addition to everything you’re already doing!

🕯 Bare minimum- This time from your money spell, it arrives on time from an unexpected source! But it’s a quarter you found on the ground. Maybe three quarters. Not much help! If your intent would require the money to be close to a certain amount or any other specific like that, let it be known! The universe isn’t there to make assumptions.

🕯 For the worst- Let’s say you have two friends that have been flirting, so you cast a nice little spell to let any mutual interest between them blossom into a relationship and save them some trouble. It happens, but it turns out they do NOT work well with each other. They are interested in each other, but argue constantly and bring out the worst in each other. The relationship is hurting them both. You had the absolute best of intentions, but there was no way of knowing that would happen! This is why a lot of witches include the phrase, “for the highest good” in their spells, as a failsafe for any unexpected pitfalls like this that may be lurking. The universe will see them but doesn’t know to care unless you specify.

🕯Another layer- Once I made a dream bear to bring me more dreams. Well, I had lots more dreams, but couldn’t remember any of them! I didn’t think that was something I needed to specify. Make sure you hit every point you need to be satisfied with a result.

As a general rule, if my spell includes a prayer or petition of any sort, I take a few minutes and comb through it for stuff like this beforehand. What am I specifying? What am I leaving up to interpretation? Could any of that manifest in a way I would be unhappy with? Take a little time before you start casting to smooth out all those wrinkles! Best of wishes!

Change your clothes. Even if you’re already wearing something comfortable, change into something else that’s still casual and comfy.

Eat your favorite food. A bowl of rice, ice cream, pasta, make a sandwich, anything that makes you happy.

Eat some fruit. A banana, apple, peach, pear, some berries, fruit is always a good option.

Eat some protein. Cheese, meat, eggs, rice and beans, ect. Something to give you energy.

Drink lots of water. Fill up a water bottle and keep it with you, but remember to actually drink it.

Find as many pillows and blankets as you can around the house and pile them on your bed. THE MESSIER, THE BETTER!

Bring your acquired snacks into your room. Even if you don’t make a habit of eating in your room, make an exception this time.

Bring a couple of your favorite stuffed animals to share your nest with.

If you have cats, invite them as well.

Watch an episode or two of your favorite show GUILT FREE. Nothing sad! Watch something that will make you smile and laugh a lot. And ENJOY IT. Give yourself this time to decompress without stressing over a million other things. I know it can be hard, but YOU CAN DO IT

Hang a sign outside your door, letting family members/roommates know that you are currently unavailable. Be polite, courteous, and take their needs into consideration if they need something from you, but it’s okay to have a little chunk of time all to yourself when you’re having a tough day. We’ve all been there.

Turn off your phone. Just for a little while so you can completely relax. Stay off social media too - you don’t need any drama right now.

Once you’ve finished your show and eaten a healthy amount of food, do something productive. Even if it’s just one or two little chores - sweep, do the dishes, tidy up your room, dust, reorganize the bookshelf, whatever. Do something that will make you feel like you’ve accomplished something. Even if it’s little, be proud of yourself for each task!

Listen to music while you’re working. iPod, record player, radio, etc. Make it something up beat with a nice and lively tempo.

Dance and sing. I don’t care if you dance like a fish out of water and sing like a dog whose tail was stepped on, you are a beautiful contribution to this world so don’t be afraid to shine!

Alternate in doing tasks throughout the day with doing things you enjoy. Paperwork and then a walk (fresh air always helps!), mop the floors than read that book you’ve been wanting to explore.

Talk to a friend if you need to. If you don’t think you have anyone to talk to, let me be the first to tell you, YOU DO! There are thousands of kindhearted people on here who would love to get to know you and want to help you and hear about your day if you are feeling under the weather.

Remember that this is today. Every tomorrow is another chance. Everyone has rough days, and sometimes we get a whole long string of them, but life is so much more than just the bad days. Go to bed knowing that tomorrow is a new start.

This is great advice! Follow it in order, or just pick and choose—when you’re having a bad day, any conscious self care can make it better.

"Not Today" Negativity cleansing spell

A music-centric spell for banishing depression, based on the song “Not Today” by twenty one pilots!

YOU WILL NEED:
▪ Something on which to play music
▪ Amethyst (Or other stone that fades when exposed to prolonged sunlight)
▪ A sunny day
▪ A room with curtains that can be closed and opened (preferably light blocking)

OPTIONAL:
▪ Twine or string of some variety
▪ Herbs/essential oils related to positivity (there is very little I know less about than herbs, do your thing though)
▪ Candle (more for illumination than ritual)

Step 1: Dim room.
I don’t know why, I just feel I’m better off, staying in the same room I was born in.

Close the curtains. Dim the lights. Sit in the middle of the room, light a candle for illumination if you want to. Feel that the room represents the dark parts of your brain, the parts that are struggling, the parts that need light and fresh air that just can’t reach them right now.

Step 2: Music.
Listen, I know, this one’s a contradiction because of how happy it sounds; But the lyrics are so down.

Whether you’re listening with headphones or speakers, start playing the song. Put it on repeat. (try listenonrepeat.com if you don’t have it on your phone or ipod) I recommend speakers, so you can sing along. Do whatever you need to do, either start working as soon as the song starts, or listen to it all the way through a couple times until you feel it. Go with what resonates for you.

Step 3: Materials.
It’s okay though, because it represents - Wait, better yet, it IS - Who I feel I am, right now.

Adapt the materials in this spell to suit you. You’re inside your own head, you know what feels right. You know what makes you happy. Draw from that.
Take your amethyst (or other crystal, just as long as sunlight makes it fade in color) and hold it in your hand - Roll it around, feel the surface of it. Channel all your sadness and lethargy into it, everything negative and bad and hard to deal with every day. Make it the vessel for all the bad energy you have to wrestle with.
Optional: Use twine or string to make a little net thingy around it so you can hang it from the top of the window. Make sure there’s still enough space between knots for the bad to get out.

Step 4: Sunlight.
Heard you say “Not Today” Tore the curtains down, windows open now, make a sound!

Throw open your curtains. Throw open your windows. Feel the sunlight and the breeze, breathe deeply and look out at the world. It’s not better off without you in it, trying to transform it. Depression is terribly hard, but you deserve all the literal and metaphorical sunlight you can get.
Place your amethyst on the windowsill where it will get plenty of sunlight, or hang it from the top of the window frame. Keep curtains open whenever possible, and keep positivity flowing. Whenever you need to, channel more excess negativity into the amethyst. Over time, the sun will make it fade and bleach, purifying it of whatever dark thoughts and sadness you put into it, and whisking it away from your home. When you feel it’s served it’s purpose and isn’t going to get any more faded, take it down from the window and either keep it with you to remember to force the curtains open in your brain from time to time, or thank it and dispose of it.

a spell to help someone see your feelings

write a letter detailing your feelings and roll it up. optional, add some herbs that correspond with your situation. (for anon, i suggest clover, cumin, sage, and/or cinnamon). seal something inside the letter, something that represents the person, whether it is some of their hair or a picture of them, etc.

if you need help picking herbs to burn, pinecone.pub is a good resource

light a blue candle, and wait until the flame burns strong, then chant, burning the letter:

“know my feelings, and how you have snubbed me
by the blue candle that burns: to this gain clarity.”

blow out the candle.
